Super Robot Wars Y เป็นเกมวางแผนกลยุทธ์แบบตารางที่นำหุ่นยนต์และนักบินจากอนิเมะหลายเรื่องมารวมในสนามรบเดียวกัน ผู้เล่นจะได้วางแผนและควบคุมหน่วยรบเพื่อเอาชนะศัตรู พร้อมทั้งอัปเกรดหน่วยและฝึกฝนนักบินด้วยทรัพยากรที่ได้รับหลังจบแต่ละภารกิจ
