Nintendo Switch 2 มาพร้อมสื่อเกมรูปแบบใหม่ที่เรียกว่า Game-Key Card ซึ่งถือเป็นแนวทางใหม่ของการวางจำหน่ายเกมแบบแผ่น และเป็นที่พูดถึงอย่างกว้างขวางในหมู่ผู้เล่นทั่วโลก
รูปแบบนี้มีลักษณะกึ่งกลางระหว่างแผ่นเกมแบบดั้งเดิมกับโค้ดดาวน์โหลดดิจิทัล ภายในกล่องยังคงมีตลับมาให้เหมือนเดิม แต่ตลับดังกล่าวไม่ได้บรรจุข้อมูลเกมทั้งหมดเอาไว้ ผู้เล่นจึงต้องดาวน์โหลดตัวเกมก่อนในครั้งแรก เมื่อดาวน์โหลดเสร็จแล้วไม่จำเป็นต้องเชื่อมต่ออินเทอร์เน็ตตลอดเวลา อย่างไรก็ตาม ทุกครั้งที่เข้าเล่นยังคงต้องใส่ตลับ Game-Key Card เข้าไปในเครื่อง
หากย้อนกลับไปดูยุค Nintendo Switch รุ่นแรก จะพบว่ามีหลายเกมที่วางจำหน่ายแบบมีกล่อง แต่ภายในเป็นเพียงโค้ดดาวน์โหลด ซึ่งไม่สามารถให้เพื่อนยืมหรือขายต่อได้ในภายหลัง การมีตลับจริงในรูปแบบ Game-Key Card จึงช่วยแก้ข้อจำกัดดังกล่าวได้บางส่วน แต่ในอีกมุมหนึ่งก็ยังไม่ถือเป็นแผ่นเกมแบบดั้งเดิมอย่างแท้จริง เพราะตัวตลับไม่ได้บรรจุข้อมูลเกมไว้ภายใน
